Sanjoy Roy, accused of raping and murdering a trainee doctor in Kolkata, was “influenced,” claimed his mother, Indira Chakraborty, in an exclusive interview. She expressed regret, saying, “Had I been more strict, this wouldn't have happened.” Roy, a school topper and boxer, was arrested after being linked to the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College. His mother mentioned that her son was deeply affected by his first wife’s death, leading to his alcohol addiction. She also expressed helplessness, abandoned by her daughters and unable to appeal in court.
