The Indian government has announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh to enhance local governance and service delivery. Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that the new districts—Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang—will help bring government benefits closer to residents. This expansion increases the number of districts in Ladakh from two (Leh and Kargil) to seven. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and local MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal have praised the decision, citing it as a significant step towards the region’s development and improved administrative efficiency.
