West Bengal Police declared the planned 'Nabanna Abhijan' protest illegal, stating no permission was sought to demonstrate at Nabanna, the state secretariat. Police cited intelligence reports suggesting potential chaos and violence during the rally, organized by the 'Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj' demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over a doctor's rape-murder case. Additional Director General Manoj Verma confirmed that Nabanna is a restricted area and any protest requires prior approval. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS have been imposed near Nabanna. Police assured that UGC NET exam students will be accommodated without disruption.
