An FIR has been filed against contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil after the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, collapsed just eight months post-inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The FIR includes charges of fraud, collusion, and endangering public safety under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Public Works Department (PWD) reported that poor construction quality and rusted nuts and bolts caused the collapse. Despite concerns raised by locals, tourists, and a PWD assistant engineer warning about the statue's deteriorating condition, no preventive action was taken, leading to the statue's eventual failure.
