A 12-hour bandh called by the BJP partially affected daily life in West Bengal, protesting police action against demonstrators who marched to the state secretariat over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Clashes occurred between BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers on the outskirts of Kolkata. A BJP leader reported that TMC supporters fired at his car in Bhatpara, North 24 Parganas. Heavy police deployment was visible, and seven BJP workers were detained for trying to close Shyambazar metro station in Kolkata. The bandh led to disruptions and heightened tensions between the political factions.
