In response to recent attacks on healthcare workers, including the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, the Union Health Ministry has mandated new safety measures. The Supreme Court, on August 22, directed the establishment of enhanced security protocols for medical facilities. The Health Ministry's instructions include increased hospital security, regulated visitor access, improved lighting, and 24x7 patrolling. A national task force will also be set up to review healthcare workers' safety. The directive follows nationwide protests by doctors demanding better protection.
