PM Narendra Modi has reinforced India's "India First" policy by commissioning two nuclear ballistic missile submarines, INS Arihant in 2016 and INS Arighaat on August 29, 2024. A third, INS Aridaman, is set to launch next year. These submarines, along with the ballistic missile tracker ship INS Dhruv, bolster India's nuclear triad and blue water navy capabilities. They enhance India's access denial capabilities in the Indo-Pacific and deter threats to the country's land and coastline. This move showcases India's commitment to a "credible, minimum" and indigenous nuclear deterrent with second strike capability, aligning with its stated policy objectives.
