Junior doctors in Kolkata staged a sit-in protest on BB Ganguly Street, demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The protestors accused the police of inaction and poor handling of the case before it was handed over to the CBI. The medics carried the national flag, placards, and a replica spine to symbolize police responsibility. Despite a police offer for a 20-member delegation to meet with senior officers, the standoff continued with heightened security at the protest site.
