Thousands, including doctors and paramedics, formed a 13-km human chain in Kolkata, demanding justice for the raped and murdered medic from R G Kar Medical College. Protestors held placards reading "For how long we have to wait for justice" and "Hang the rapists." The peaceful protest along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass did not disrupt traffic. Left Front activists also held rallies demanding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over the handling of the case. The body of the victim was found in the hospital's seminar room, leading junior doctors to go on strike.
