Jaydeep Apte, Sculptor of Collapsed Shivaji Statue, Taken into Custody

Jaydeep Apte, the 24-year-old sculptor of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue that collapsed in Maharashtra last month, has been arrested. Apte, who was untraceable for 10 days, was taken into custody in Thane district. The 35-feet-tall statue, inaugurated just nine months ago, collapsed on August 26. Apte is currently being held at the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office. His arrest comes after a nearly two-week search. The incident had raised questions about the quality of construction and Apte's expertise.
