Irinjadappilly Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala has replaced its live elephant with a robotic one, becoming the first temple in India to do so. This initiative, supported by PETA India and actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, aims to end animal cruelty in religious rituals. The 11-foot-tall mechanical elephant, named Irinjadappilly Raman, was unveiled during a traditional ceremony. The robotic elephant, which cost Rs. 5 lakh, can mimic the movements of a real elephant and carry up to five people. PETA hopes this compassionate move will inspire others to follow suit, reducing the exploitation of captive animals in festivals.
