Banerjee previously dismissed allegations of police bribery as slander. The victim's mother criticized Banerjee's call to halt protests for Durga Puja, calling it "inhuman." She vowed that protests would continue until justice is served. The doctor's semi-naked body was found on August 9, leading to widespread protests. Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer, is in judicial custody, and the CBI now handles the case.
