West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, Deputy Commissioner (North), and two senior health officials after a two-hour meeting with protesting junior doctors. The doctors had been demanding action following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. While Banerjee accepted most demands, the junior doctors will consult with their peers before deciding to resume work. “We want justice for Abhaya and other women,” Banerjee stated. The meeting followed intense protests across Kolkata seeking justice and safety for healthcare workers.
