This year’s Durga Puja in Kolkata takes on a strikingly somber tone with pandals addressing the protests surrounding R G Kar Medical College. The "Lojja" (Shame) themed pandal at Saraswati Kalimata Mandir features a Maa Durga idol covering her face, symbolizing the outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. Organizer Biswajit Sarkar, whose brother Abhijit Sarkar died in post-poll violence, says the pandal reflects the bloodshed in West Bengal. Meanwhile, the Santosh Mitra Square pandal uses a light show to address the incident, blending traditional themes with modern visuals.
