National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on October 11, 2024, to stake his claim to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. Supported by Congress, CPM, AAP, and independent legislators, Abdullah has secured the backing of 54 members in the 90-member Assembly. Congress, through its Pradesh Congress Committee, officially endorsed Abdullah’s leadership. This marks the first government formation since J&K's special status was revoked in 2019. NC’s Farooq Abdullah is likely to be nominated for a Rajya Sabha seat.
