In 2007, under Ratan Tata’s leadership, Tata Group created India’s supercomputer ‘Eka,’ which ranked 4th globally. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), led by S. Ramadorai, initiated the project with scientists like Dr. Sunil Sherlekar. Facing numerous hurdles, including the departure of key team members, the project was saved with the help of a Russian engineer who was incentivized with cigarettes and beer. Eka achieved an impressive speed of 118 teraflops, making India a contender in global supercomputing. This milestone cemented Tata Group's contributions to India’s technological advancements.
