The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed Jharkhand’s acting Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Gupta, citing past complaints. Gupta had faced allegations of biased behavior in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2016 Rajya Sabha elections. The state government must now submit a list of senior IPS officers by October 21 to appoint a new DGP. Jharkhand will hold assembly elections in two phases, on November 13 and 20. The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is leading the government with 30 members in the state assembly.
