The Great South Run, scheduled for Sunday in Portsmouth, UK, has been cancelled due to severe weather warnings from Storm Ashley. Organizers made the decision after consulting with the Met Office, local authorities, and safety teams. High winds, forecasted at up to 80mph in parts of Scotland and 60mph in North West areas, along with the risk of debris and high tides, compromised event safety. Over 20,000 runners were expected. Participants can either transfer their entry to next year or request a refund. Storm Ashley is the first storm of the season, described as a “weather bomb.”
