The Punjab government has sanctioned the prosecution of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, in three sacrilege cases from 2015. This decision follows the recent Supreme Court ruling that lifted a stay on the trial, which was previously imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The sacrilege incidents triggered significant protests from the Sikh community, resulting in violent clashes and the deaths of two protesters during police action. The approval allows the trial against Ram Rahim to move forward, based on a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
