High Uranium Levels Found in Chhattisgarh Drinking Water, Exceeding WHO and Government Limits

High uranium levels in drinking water have been detected in at least six districts of Chhattisgarh, measuring three to four times above the World Health Organization's (WHO) limit of 15 micrograms per liter. These levels also exceed the Indian government's permissible limit of 30 micrograms per liter. Health risks associated with elevated uranium levels include increased chances of cancers, pulmonary issues, and various skin and kidney diseases. The WHO has acknowledged uncertainties regarding the health impacts of uranium concentrations above its recommended limit. Meanwhile, a study from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre indicated that levels up to 60 micrograms per liter could be considered safe.
