The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has warned social media platforms to swiftly remove hoax bomb threat posts or face legal liability. With over 250 recent false alarms disrupting flights from Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara, the ministry stated that non-compliance could lead to the loss of safe harbor protections under the IT Act. The advisory mandates platforms to provide information to law enforcement agencies within 72 hours. Recent bomb threats at airports in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Jharsuguda turned out to be hoaxes, prompting heightened security measures across the aviation sector.
