The Delhi High Court has denied permission for Chhath Puja rituals on the Yamuna River banks, citing severe water pollution and health risks. A Public Interest Litigation sought to allow the festival’s observance on the riverbank, but the court dismissed it, highlighting the high contamination and toxic foams in the Yamuna. "It will be very harmful to you," the bench warned, pointing out an incident where a devotee fell ill after bathing in the river. The court noted that 1,000 alternative ghats have been designated for devotees to perform the rituals safely.
