A tragic fire at Jhansi’s Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh claimed the lives of 10 newborns, with 16 others critically injured. The blaze erupted late Friday night in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which housed 47 infants, exceeding its capacity of 18. Authorities suspect a short circuit caused the fire. Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak announced DNA tests to identify some victims and promised financial aid—₹10 lakh for the deceased’s families and ₹50,000 for the injured.
