Animesh Mandal, a 44-year-old deputy superintendent-rank Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer posted in Nagpur, was arrested for sharing a hoax bomb threat on an IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata. The November 14 flight, carrying 187 passengers, made an emergency landing in Raipur, where the threat was deemed baseless. Mandal was charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and aviation safety laws. His lawyer claims the alert stemmed from unverified intelligence. Police confirmed the arrest followed IB interrogation. India recorded 719 hoax bomb threats to airlines in 2024, emphasizing the importance of robust aviation security protocols, including the Bomb Threat Contingency Plan.
