The Opposition INDIA bloc has submitted a notice to remove Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Around 60 MPs alleged that Dhankhar acted in a "partisan and unfair" manner, interrupting Opposition members and silencing dissent. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the move, calling it "extremely regrettable" and praising Dhankhar as professional and impartial. Rijiju criticised the Opposition for disrespecting the dignity of the Chair in both Houses. The Opposition, lacking a majority in the 243-member Rajya Sabha, said the motion is a message to protect democracy. No Vice President has been impeached in India's history.
