Former Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as the new governor of Manipur, replacing Laxman Prasad Acharya, who held additional charge of the violence-hit state. Bhalla, a 1984 batch IAS officer, served as home secretary from 2019 to August 2024, marking the longest tenure in this critical post. Ex-Army chief General V.K. Singh is now Mizoram’s governor, while Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has been reassigned to Bihar. Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar will take over as Kerala’s governor. Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has been appointed as Odisha’s governor, the Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed.
