At least 14 Maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district near the Odisha border. The operation began on January 19 based on intelligence about Maoist presence in the Kularighat reserve forest. A Maoist with a ₹1 crore bounty was among the dead. The joint operation involved the DRG, CRPF, CoBRA, and Odisha’s SOG. Security forces recovered firearms, ammunition, and IEDs from the site. The government has vowed to end Naxalism by 2026. The crackdown follows recent Maoist attacks that killed several security personnel in the region.
