A mysterious toxin has claimed 17 lives in Badhaal village, Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, between Dec 7 and Jan 19. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh ruled out infectious pathogens, citing toxins as the likely cause. Authorities sealed a contaminated water spring, and over 200 food samples are being tested nationwide. Patients exhibited symptoms like fever, nausea, and loss of consciousness, often leading to death. An inter-ministerial team and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) are probing the matter. The government assured no public health crisis and pledged swift action to identify the toxin and prevent further fatalities.
