Mahakumbh Stampede Kills 30: No Vehicles, VVIP Passes Cancelled Till Feb 4 in Prayagraj

The Uttar Pradesh government has banned all vehicles and VVIP passes at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj until February 4 after a deadly stampede on ‘Mauni Amavasya’ killed 30 people and injured 60. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to implement one-way bath routes, establish holding areas to prevent overcrowding, and ensure smooth train and bus operations. Additional police and administrative personnel have been deployed for crowd control. Traffic on major routes will be closely monitored. Authorities are also ensuring food, water, and uninterrupted electricity for pilgrims. The next major event, ‘Amrit Snan’ on February 3, will see heightened security.
