The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, defeating Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won only 22. PM Narendra Modi called it a mandate for development, stating, “Delhi is India’s gateway and should get the country’s best infrastructure.” Parvesh Sahib Singh, who defeated Kejriwal, is among BJP’s top contenders for chief ministership. Congress failed to win any seats for the third straight election. A voter turnout of 60.54% was recorded. BJP returns to power in Delhi after 27 years.
