On Saturday night, a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station resulted in at least 15 deaths and numerous injuries as thousands of pilgrims gathered to travel to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The incident occurred on Platform 14, where the Prayagraj Express was scheduled to depart. Delays of two other Prayagraj-bound trains, the Swatantrata Senani Express and the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani, exacerbated the crowding. In an attempt to manage the swelling crowd, officials blocked one staircase each on Platforms 14 and 15, inadvertently causing congestion on the remaining access points. This led to pushing and panic, resulting in the tragic stampede. A high-level probe has been ordered to investigate the incident.
