Minister of State for Transport, Madhuri Misal, acknowledged security lapses at state transport depots, notably Pune's Swargate depot, following the rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary bus. During her inspection, Misal noted that while higher authorities issue directives, implementation at the ground level is often lacking. She highlighted ongoing issues such as the nuisance of touts and private operators, and the absence of a complaint redressal cell. In response, the government plans to scrap all defunct buses by April 15, enhance public safety measures including expanding CCTV coverage, deploying women security guards, and establishing a vigilance cell to protect passengers, especially women.
