Award-winning farmer Kailash Arjun Nagare, 43, was found dead in his field in Shivni Armal village on Holi, having consumed poison. Nagare, honored with Maharashtra's 2020 Young Farmer Award, had persistently advocated for irrigation water from the Khadakpurna reservoir for 14 villages. Despite a 10-day hunger strike last year, his demands remained unmet. In a three-page suicide note, he expressed frustration over governmental neglect and requested that his body not be moved until the demands were addressed. His death incited significant unrest among local farmers, leading to protests and calls for accountability from the administration. Nagare is survived by his father, wife, and three children.
