On March 14, 2025, in Vadodara's Karelibaug area, a speeding car driven by 23-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasia collided with multiple vehicles, resulting in the death of Hemaliben Patel and injuries to at least four others, including two children. Chaurasia, initially denying intoxication, later admitted to consuming bhaang (cannabis) during Holika Dahan celebrations. He claimed the accident occurred after hitting a pothole, which deployed the airbags and obstructed his vision, causing loss of control. During a crime scene reconstruction, Chaurasia was observed limping and holding his ears.
