On Easter Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Russia of violating a declared one-day ceasefire by continuing military activity along the front line. Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced the ceasefire late Saturday before attending an Orthodox Easter service, ordering a halt to combat operations from 6 p.m. Saturday to midnight Sunday. However, Zelenskiy stated on social media that although Russia aimed to create the impression of observing the truce, it still attempted to advance militarily and inflict damage. Ukrainian forces reported hundreds of shelling instances Saturday night and 59 shelling incidents with five assault attempts early Sunday. Zelenskiy emphasized that Ukraine is prepared to extend the ceasefire for 30 days if Russia genuinely adheres to it and warned that Ukrainian forces would respond in kind if Russian aggression continued. The ceasefire call came amid U.S. pressure, with Washington threatening to withdraw from peace talks unless both sides demonstrated commitment to negotiations. (PC: Reuters & BBC)
