In a decisive move, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is gearing up to address the rising threat of deepfake content. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced on Tuesday that significant measures will be unveiled on November 24 following a crucial meeting with major social media companies on November 23. Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for an overarching framework to bolster existing measures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously expressed concerns, urging media participation in raising awareness. The government aims to collaborate with industry stakeholders to prevent deepfakes from causing chaos or toxicity on the internet for Indian users.
