On May 31, 2025, a truck carrying 250 million honeybees in 70,000 pounds of hives overturned near Lynden, Washington, close to the US-Canada border. The accident occurred around 4 a.m., releasing a massive swarm into the area. Local sheriff’s deputies and over two dozen beekeeping experts responded to recover the hives. Some officers were forced to retreat to their vehicles after being stung. Authorities believe the driver mishandled a sharp turn. The driver was unharmed.
