Celebrations turned tragic across France following Paris Saint-Germain's historic 5–0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan on May 31, 2025. According to the French Interior Ministry, two individuals died—one from a vehicle collision in Paris and another from a stabbing in Dax. Nationwide, 559 people were arrested, including 491 in Paris, where 254 were placed in custody. Violence erupted along the Champs-Élysées, with rioters smashing bus shelters and clashing with police, who responded with tear gas and water cannons. Over 200 vehicles were torched, and 29 emergency personnel were injured. Authorities had deployed 5,400 officers in anticipation of unrest.
