A stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebration near M Chinnaswamy Stadium killed 11 people and injured 50. Thousands had gathered for a felicitation event organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The crowd surged, causing many to faint. Police rushed the injured to Bowring Hospital. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, “I apologise for the overcrowding. We had over 5,000 personnel, but the crowd was young and uncontrollable.” Fans climbed trees and fences to see the team. The planned parade was cancelled for safety. Police had been managing crowds since Tuesday night to prevent such incidents. (PC: The Economic Times)
