Eleven people died and 27 were injured in a stampede at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium during celebrations for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL win after 18 years. The stampede happened during the team’s felicitation event, with a large crowd gathered. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “We had arranged more than 5,000 personnel. This is a young, vibrant crowd, we can’t use lathi.” He also apologised for the overcrowding and added, “Can’t confirm anything” on exact casualties. Police had been managing the crowd since Tuesday night, but the situation became uncontrollable on Wednesday. (PC: NDTV)
