Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot during a rally in Bogotá on June 7. He was hit three times—twice in the head and once in the back. The 39-year-old is currently in hospital, receiving emergency neurosurgical care. A 14-year-old suspect was caught at the scene. President Petro cancelled his France visit and called the attack a threat to democracy. Turbay’s wife said he is fighting for his life. The election is set for May 2026. Turbay, a right-wing senator, had announced his candidacy in March. Global leaders have condemned the attack and called for peace. (PC: X/@Rincon001A)
