Kannan Singh, a former head-constable dismissed earlier this year and commander of the radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol, was arrested by the CBI on charges including the abduction of a senior police officer. His detention triggered violent protests across Imphal Valley: mobs torched a bus, set fires, and some protesters even threatened self-immolation by dousing themselves in petrol. In response, authorities imposed curfews and suspended internet services in five districts. Security forces used tear gas to disperse crowds, eventually bringing the situation under control amid heightened tensions in Manipur’s fragile ethnic landscape. (PC: PTI)
