Climate activist Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel on Tuesday following her detention while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The 22-year-old was among 12 activists aboard the British-flagged yacht "Madleen" when Israeli naval forces intercepted their "Freedom Flotilla" mission. The group sought to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, in place since 2007. Thunberg departed on a flight to Sweden via France, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. While some activists accepted deportation, eight remain detained at Givon prison, planning to contest their removal before an Israeli tribunal. The vessel had departed from Sicily earlier this month.
