The Supreme Court dismissed a petition by Goa-born Christian Pak national, chef Jude Mendes, seeking Indian citizenship under the CAA. Mendes entered India in 2016 two years past the CAA’s January 1, 2014 deadline and claimed religious persecution in Pakistan. Though born in Goa to a Pakistani father, he completed schooling in Karachi and returned on a long‑term visa, duly extended till June 20. Married to an Indian and holder of an Aadhaar, he argues returning to Pakistan would imperil him.
