An Air India flight bound for London’s Gatwick airport crashed just five minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as AI171, had 242 people onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew. The aircraft departed at 1:38 pm and went down near Meghaninagar, close to the airport. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the crash site, prompting the closure of Ahmedabad airport. Emergency services rushed to the scene as authorities began investigations. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the crash. Air India has stated more details will be shared as confirmed.
