Mayday Call, Then Silence: Air India Flight With 242 Crashes Near Ahmedabad Airport

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (AI171) crashed soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, with 242 onboard, including ex-Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. "It gave a MAYDAY call to ATC, but thereafter no response was given by the aircraft," the DGCA stated. The flight was heading to London and crashed outside the airport perimeter minutes after departure. The captain had 8,200 flying hours. PM Modi directed full support and is being kept updated. All flights from Ahmedabad are suspended. Air India posted, “We are ascertaining details,” and set up a helpline: 1800 5691 444 for families. (PC: X)
