Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people, crashed moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to London Gatwick on 12 June 2025. The aircraft issued a distress call at 625 ft altitude before descending into the residential Meghani Nagar area and striking a doctors’ hostel. Eyewitnesses reported explosions and a massive fireball. All onboard—230 passengers and 12 crew, including nationals from India, the UK, Canada, and Portugal—were killed. Additionally, at least five people on the ground perished. Emergency services rushed to the scene; flight operations were suspended, later resuming under restrictions.
