On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner, crashed just 30 seconds into its Ahmedabad–London flight after taking off at 13:38 IST. The aircraft struck a hostel block at B.J. Medical College in the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood, killing 241 onboard and 28 on the ground, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani; over 60 were injured. The sole survivor, 40‑year‑old British‑Indian Vishwash Kumar Ramesh (seat 11A), was found amidst wreckage with multiple injuries and rushed to Civil Hospital. A “Mayday” had been issued before contact ceased. DNA samples are being used for victim identification. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, aided by Boeing, GE Aerospace, and UK/US agencies, is investigating.
