Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said the iron bridge that collapsed over the Indrayani river near Pune was “rusted” and gave way under the weight of a crowd. Two people died in the incident and 38 have been rescued, with 30 hospitalised and six seriously injured, officials said. The old bridge fell in Kundamala, a popular picnic spot, after heavy rainfall caused the river to swell. Pawar said plans for a new bridge were already approved. CM Devendra Fadnavis added that rescue operations are being carried out “on a war footing” to find those still missing in the river. (PC: NDTV)
