The Supreme Court slammed the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday for allowing a ban on Kamal Haasan’s film Thug Life, calling it a threat to rule of law. The top court criticized the violent protests over Haasan’s remark that “Kannada was born from Tamil,” stating, “Hooligans can’t dictate cinema.” The bench said the film, cleared by the censor board, must be released nationwide and gave Karnataka one day to respond. It also rebuked the high court’s suggestion for Haasan to apologize. Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, released across India on June 5, except in Karnataka due to protests. (PC: News18)
